Community Group FAQs

  1. Community Groups exist primarily so that you can learn more about God’s plan for your life (primarily through Bible Study) and make some lasting friendships. At Crosspoint, we believe that life change happens best in small groups and are committed to providing an environment where you can become more intimate with God and others in your group.
  2. All groups are open – that means that new people are welcome at any time.  It is often best to have new participants at the beginning of a study… but anytime is OK.  Crosspoint will actively attempt to plug guests into groups, and the groups are responsible for following up with the guests, as well as inviting other friends.
  3. No group will last forever – since our groups are open, they will all grow and split to form 2 new, open, growing groups.  Most groups grow and split in ~ 12 - 18 months.
  4. Community Groups are small groups and will typically consist of 6 to 12 people.
  5. Each group will normally pick its own topics, based on the interests and needs of the group.  Crosspoint has a list of recommended studies from which to choose.  Occasionally, the leadership at Crosspoint will ask all the groups to do the same study simultaneously.
  6. Groups are normally based on demographics and geography…. That is a fancy way of saying that most groups are people in similar life stages that happen to live near each other.
  7. Groups will consist of people who are at unique places on their journey with God.  Most groups will have a few people who are still thinking about or just figuring this “Christianity” thing out… eventually, we plan to start a “Starting Point” group that is focused on people who are looking, checking and seeking.
  8. You don’t have to attend Crosspoint to attend a community group.
  9. Each group should have active participation and discussion, we’ll be learning from each other as well as the Bible.  Honesty and confidentiality are often core values of each group.
  10. Each group should have a covenant – a set of core values that the group agrees upon within 6 weeks of starting a new group.    Each group should have an apprentice.  Donald won’t normally attend and we don’t have a boardroom, but each group should be preparing for the day it will split by growing a new leader.
  11. Each group has a host home… be sure to say a big thank you to your host.  It is the hardest job in the whole group!
  12. Each group has to figure out a few things for themselves… childcare, night of the week, start and end time, who brings the food…etc.
